Yikes!

This morning I hopped on our checking account to balance the checkbook. I noticed I had three pending charges from Facebook. Random. They were for $1.01. DH doesn't have FB and I have never given them my debit card number. I googled the charge and it appears it has something to do with FB ads, which I don't use. Then, I noticed a few other strange charges. All the amounts were under $20. I didn't pay much attention at first because DH is always ordering VW parts from random places across the U.S. What caught my eye, however, was a charge from a Children's Book Club. I know for a fact we don't belong nor have we subscribed to a children's book club. So, I called up DH just to make sure and of course, I was right, he hadn't made any of these charges.

I decided to google all of them. One was an online casino gaming website and the others specifically stated they were scams. There is about $60 worth of pending charges. I texted my aunt at the bank and told her to cancel both our debit cards and see what she can do about the charges. Grrrr.

On the bright side, we won't have a debit card to swipe during the Christmas rush. We'll have to use cash everywhere we go until our new cards come in, which will probably be 2-3 weeks. Dave Ramsey would be so proud. LOL

Scammed?

I think I've been scammed. I emailed the local chapter of the March of Dimes a few weeks ago. Then, earlier this week I received an email from the "division director". He mentioned that he had recently received interest from another local resident and that maybe it's time we meet to discuss the possibility of hosting an event. I didn't recognize the other woman, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. However, it did strike me as strange when he said she worked for the government. People around here wouldn't say they work for the government. Most people here either work for the university, hospital or school system. If they work for the "government" they would probably say they work for the city or county or the state. Anyway...

I replied that I'd love to meet and discuss starting an event. He replied back stating he would meet me here in my hometown. I then replied back asking if the other local woman would be joining us and that I'd rather meet him in his office, which happens to be about an hour from here. I haven't heard from him since. I googled his name, checked local listings, poured over the MOD website and can't come up with anything. He didn't have a phone number or address listed in his email, but he did have a MOD email address.

Maybe I'm overreacting, but something just doesn't feel right. I may set this idea aside for the time being. I'm also considering the Promise Walk for Preeclampsia instead. Any thoughts?
